Working in Series
barbara baum
M.F.A., Boston University
This is a class for the very advanced painting students who want to begin to
move away from working from life. We will work on a series of exercises designed
to help the painter explore visual ideas, work and rework images, make use of
the grid, and to take the idea in several different directions. We will discuss
how to move towards abstraction. We will work from different sources...an object,
photo or memory and work on multiple paintings in order to explore answers to
the different questions that come up during the process of making a painting.
Limited to 14.

Portrait Painting
barbara baum
M.F.A., Boston University
In this class, we'll study the structure of the head by
doing studies of a skull and using the information from that structure to better understand the head's complexities. With the use of models, we'll do various exercises, quick and longer term to analyze the face and its relationship to the entire head. We will discuss color as it relates to skin tones and begin to find out where 'likeness' comes from.
Drawing and painting experience is required for this course.
